Straightforward QuickBooks Online bookkeeping for small businesses

Clear cleanup, catch-up, and monthly bookkeeping support for sole proprietors and small businesses that want dependable books without unnecessary complexity.

James McGown — Cleanup & Monthly Bookkeeping Specialist

Three ways I can help

QuickBooks Cleanup Assessment

$195 fixed

A diagnostic review of your QuickBooks Online file, with prioritized findings and a fixed-price proposal for the cleanup work that appears necessary.

If you accept the related Cleanup & Catch-Up proposal within 30 calendar days, the $195 assessment fee is credited once against the initial 50% cleanup payment.

QuickBooks Cleanup & Catch-Up

Starting at $750

A defined project for an approved historical period. Depending on the agreed scope, the work may include supported transaction cleanup, reconciliation of included accounts, final reports, reconciliation status, unresolved items, and documented limitations.

Monthly QuickBooks Bookkeeping

Starting at $325 per month

Most current clients are expected to fall between $325 and $475 per month, depending on accounts, transaction volume, and complexity.

Monthly service may include supported transaction review, reconciliation of included accounts, chart-of-accounts maintenance, monthly Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports, reconciliation status, unresolved items, and a concise month-end status summary.

A practical, owner-reviewed process

1. Tell me what you need help with

Start with a short, plain-language fit check. No financial documents or passwords are requested at this step.

2. I review the fit and scope

I look for a straightforward QuickBooks Online scope, identify missing information, and flag anything that may require an assessment or another specialist.

3. You receive a clear next step

That may be a direct scope discussion, a Cleanup Assessment, a Cleanup & Catch-Up proposal, monthly bookkeeping, a referral, or a decision that the work is not a good fit.

4. Work begins only after the details are agreed

Scope, responsibilities, timing, access, records, agreement, and payment are confirmed before work begins.

Built for straightforward small-business bookkeeping

James McGown Bookkeeping focuses on fully remote QuickBooks Online support for sole proprietors and small businesses with relatively straightforward bookkeeping needs.

The service is not a CPA firm and does not provide audits, reviews, compilations, assurance, legal advice, tax advice or return preparation, payroll filing or correction, or sales-tax filing or correction.

Tax treatment, depreciation, owner basis, complex equity, unusual loan treatment, legal matters, and other specialized issues should be handled by the appropriate CPA, tax professional, attorney, payroll provider, or other qualified adviser.

Security without unnecessary friction

— QuickBooks access uses provider-supported accountant access—not shared passwords.

— The first public fit check does not request uploads.

— Sensitive records are accepted only through a separately approved secure method.

— Bookkeeping conclusions and client-facing work receive human review.

Not sure which service fits?

The short fit check is designed to help identify the most appropriate next step without asking you to diagnose your own books.

The direct fit check is not active yet. During the current launch, the available first step is the $195 QuickBooks Cleanup Assessment through Upwork. Project requirements, communications, files, contracts, and payment remain within Upwork.
